Vice Admiral (R) Muhammad Shafi, HI (M)

Vice Admiral Muhammad Shafi, HI (M), joined the operations branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1971. Specializing as a principal warfare officer, he has held various command, staff and instructional appointments during his naval career.

During his over 39 years service in Pakistan Navy, he served as Commander Coastal Areas (responsible for all naval ports & the entire Pakistan coastline), Commander Logistics (responsible for all maintenance activities in Pakistan Navy & its supply chain management), Commander of the 25th Destroyer Squadron and commanding officer of the PNS Shahhjahan and PNS Shamsher. He also rendered meritorious services on the prestigious posts of Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Training and Personnel), Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff (Operations), Director Naval Intelligence, Principal Staff Officer to Chief of the Naval Staff, Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Plans), Director Naval Warfare and Operational Planning, and Divisional Officer and Instructor at Pakistan Naval Academy.

Academically, Admiral Shafi earned his Master of Science in Defence and Strategic Studies from National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad in 2001. In addition, he has completed Resource Management Course from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California in 2003, Financial Management in the Navy from Naval Officers Training Centre, USA in 1990, Command Course from HMS Dryad, UK in 1994, Staff Course from Naval war College, Newport Rhode Island USA in 1987, PWO (Principal Warfare Officer) Course from HMS Dryad, UK in 1979 and obtained his Master Mariners Certificate from Government of Pakistan (Ports and Shipping).

He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), in 2008, Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) in 2003 and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military) in 1987.

He enjoys reading and cricket and is married with two children, a boy and a girl.
