Phitti creek was considered as the best location for development of Port Qasim since a minimum depth of 20 ft. was available at its entrance with a deep water channel and sheltered harbor inside the creek.

With the discovery of this channel, the Government decided to establish a deep-water industrial port and construct the Steel Mill, adjacent the Port
